In recent years, the young illusionist Nigel Otermans from Weert has become a fixture in the Dutch media.
From national newspapers to regional publications and television: the Limburger is popping up everywhere as the rising star of the Dutch magic scene. With his spectacular shows and international ambitions, he is attracting more and more attention.
In January 2026, *De Volkskrant* published an in-depth interview in which Otermans (soon to be 25) speaks candidly about his obsession with magic.
Even as a child, he was fascinated, though his parents forbade it for a while because it became too intense. “So I did it in secret,” he admits.
The newspaper takes a closer look at the high cost of illusions—some tricks run into the millions—and how illusionists primarily buy their secrets. The profile paints a picture of a passionate artist who has dedicated himself entirely to his passion since childhood.
In July 2025, *De Telegraaf* gave extensive coverage to his participation in the World Magic Championship in Turin, where he represented the Netherlands. “It’s just like a military operation,” Otermans said of the meticulous preparation.
Hans Klok remains his greatest role model. In another article in the same newspaper, he describes the danger that is always lurking in the world of magic.
He witnessed the serious accident involving a sword during one of Klok’s shows: a broken arm, a broken leg, and a concussion. “It’s precisely because of routine that you sometimes lose your focus,” he warns.
Regional media outlets such as De Limburger and WNL (Goedemorgen Nederland) have been covering him for some time. Their coverage focuses mainly on his theater tour *De Tijdreiziger*, in which he performs thirty illusions in just one hour.

Hart van Nederland and local publications such as Weert Magazine also highlight his rapid rise: from youth champion in stage magic in 2019 to a highly sought-after performer with his own shows.
Otermans recently spoke on his own channels about psychological illusions, a new direction he is exploring on stage at the Amsterdam Magical Experience.
The media are in agreement: Nigel Otermans combines technical skill, showmanship, and a touch of dark humor into a fresh, contemporary act.
With his youthful energy and international ambitions, he seems to be leading the new generation of magicians. Anyone who sees him perform live immediately understands why newspapers and TV shows can’t get enough of him.
